Most renovation problems are not technical. They are conversations that never happened.
Scope described verbally, prices agreed without a written breakdown, and materials assumed rather than specified — these are the three recurring causes of frustration.
Write the scope down, even briefly. Agree what happens if something unexpected is found. Ask for photographs at agreed stages when you are abroad.
A local point of contact who understands both sides removes most of this friction before it becomes a dispute.
